MISA Signs US$200 Million Agreement with UniBio and Edhafat

The Ministry of Investment of Saudi Arabia (MISA), formerly known as SAGIA, signed a memorandum of understanding with Danish biotechnology company UniBio and its Saudi partner Edhafat to develop a US$200 million biotechnology project in the Kingdom.
The agreement aims to establish a protein production facility in Saudi Arabia that will utilize UniBio’s patented technology to convert natural gas into high-protein animal feed substitutes. The facility is expected to create employment opportunities and contribute to the Kingdom’s growing biotechnology and food security sectors.
The signing ceremony in Riyadh was attended by His Excellency Ibrahim Al Omar, Governor of MISA; Ahmad AlAbedi, Director of the Petrochemical, Oil and Gas Sector; Henrik Busch-Larsen, CEO of UniBio; Dr. Nasser bin Kadasah, President and Co-Founder of Edhafat; and Ture Vahan Munksgaard, Head of Trade at the Royal Danish Embassy in Riyadh.
The project supports Saudi Arabia’s strategic goals of strengthening food security and advancing sustainable solutions by producing high-quality protein for fish, poultry, and livestock using efficient and environmentally responsible processes. By utilizing natural gas and advanced biotechnology, the project enables protein production independent of traditional farming and fishing resources.
This initiative also aligns with the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 objectives to expand its industrial and biotechnology sectors while attracting international investment and advanced technologies to Saudi Arabia.
